Lot 0096 Details

Description
Title: Untitled.
Robert E. Marx (1925 - )
Etching, undated.
Edition not noted.
Signed in pencil. Proof impression. Printers blind stamped "LC imp" in the lower right. The initials stand for Letterio Calapai, who was both a printer and printmaker.

Robert Marx is an American figurative artist whose work is heavily influenced by elements of humanity, good and bad. He has a particular focus on some of the darker aspects because "while painful to express, these themes desperately need expression, and I have done it by creating my own visual language... Picasso was the first to paint a dismembered human body to convey a sense of futility. I also use symbols: mannequins, masks, and dangling limbs on puppet strings, as my visual 'shorthand' for the controlling forces which frustrate us all."
Condition
